The first two weeks

Swelling typically peaks in the first two to three days and then gradually settles. A liquid or soft diet is usual, and most patients rest at home after discharge.

Weeks three to six

Energy levels usually improve and many patients return to study or desk-based work during this period. The diet is progressed according to the surgical team’s advice.

Months three to twelve

Residual swelling continues to resolve over several months. Changes in sensation, if present, may continue to improve over this time. Orthodontic treatment to finalise the bite continues.
