From scan to model
Virtual surgical planning begins with a CBCT or CT scan, often combined with a digital scan of the teeth. Software converts these into an accurate three-dimensional model of the patient’s facial skeleton.
Simulating the plan
On this model, the planned movements of the jaws can be simulated and evaluated from every angle. This can help assess symmetry, the bite and the relationship between bone segments before any incision is made.
Transferring the plan
The final plan can be transferred to surgery using 3D-printed splints, cutting guides or patient-specific plates. Virtual planning is a tool that supports clinical judgement; it does not replace it.
